Due to Covid-19, United Utilities reservoir safety campaign is running virtually.

They have created an engaging and informative education pack aimed at young people who are statistically more likely to enter the water. The pack can be used at home or in the classroom and the aim is to learn more on the incredibly important message about not swimming in reservoirs.

The pack can be downloaded here: https://www.unitedutilities.com/about-us/recreation-sites/reservoir-safety/

Together GM

Greater Manchester is joining together while staying apart.

We all need to carry on playing our part in helping control coronavirus:

  • stay at home as much as possible
  • work from home if you can
  • limit contact with other people
  • keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
  • wash your hands regularly

Virtual RE Trip – National Holocaust Centre

Denton Community College was expecting to take students on a number of Trips and visits this academic year. However, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, this hasn’t been possible. The RE faculty didn’t want students to miss out on one of the experiences, and therefore it has organised an exciting opportunity to still engage with the Holocaust survivors and the important messages that a visit to the National Holocaust centre would provide. RE plan to ensure that students still get the opportunity by running a virtual visit to the Centre.

The National Holocaust Centre has been running live webinars with Holocaust survivors and pupils from local schools since lockdown began and they wanted to extend the offer to our school. The sessions take place on Zoom, usually for 30-40 minutes, with one of the centre’s educators as a facilitator, two teachers from our school and up to 20 pupils.

If you do wish to take part, Ms Grant will send preparation material before the webinar so both parents and your children are familiar with the survivor’s testimony and the session structure. The session will be an opportunity for pupils to present questions to a Holocaust survivor.

The webinar will be at 11am on Wednesday, 3rd June 2020.

You will need good internet connection, access to Zoom and questions for the Holocaust survivor.

More information on zoom can be found on this website:

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, or want further information about this, please get in touch via email and contact info@dentoncommunitycollege.org.uk

The webinars that have run so far have been really successful and it provides a really unique opportunity for pupils to still ‘meet’ a survivor and ask questions in a small group. More information about the sessions can also be found on the centres’ website: https://www.holocaust.org.uk/ask-a-survivor
