Mobile Phones – September 2017

September 2017

Dear Parents and Carers

The academic progress of your child is the primary focus of Denton Community College. We continue to focus on what helps all children to achieve their maximum potential. It is our belief that Teaching and Learning is more productive when distraction is reduced. Therefore I would like to reinforce the school’s policy on how mobile phones should be used. Our policy clearly explains that phones should not be used in classrooms unless directed by the teacher.

We recognise that mobile phones are part of everyday life for many children and that they can play an important role in helping pupils to feel safe and secure. However we also recognise that they can prove a distraction in school and can provide a means of bullying or intimidating others. Therefore during Assembly this week students will be informed of the following:

  • Mobile phones and headphones must not be visible in classrooms

  • Students using phones and headphones in classrooms without the permission of staff will have them confiscated

  • Confiscated phones and headphones will only be returned to Parents or Carers after 3.30pm from Main Reception

.
Your child will also be challenged if they use phones and headphones outside Break and Dinner times. We are convinced that this will improve social interactions amongst students and create a more purposeful learning environment.
To ensure that the school has the very best climate for learning and that students are fully prepared for lessons we would ask that you discuss this with your child and thank you for your support. We also encourage Parents and Carers to continue to make contact with their child through the school day via the main reception and Heads of Year.
If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact either myself or a member of the pastoral team.

Yours faithfully,

J Haslam
