Students from DCC performed at The Plaza Stockport as part of Gibsons Dance Academy show this weekend. Miss Moran, Teacher of Dance went to watch and was incredibly proud of each and every one of them. Well done!

This year, to celebrate ‘World Book Day’, the staff at Denton Community College have dressed up as their favourite literary characters.
As well as this students will be celebrating the day by being tasked with a ‘World Book Day treasure hunt’, designed to encourage conversations about beloved books between staff and students and, of course, book tokens are on offer!
During the build-up to World Book Day, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 have entered two national writing competitions: The Young Writers ‘Mission Contamination’ 100-word saga competition and the BBC 500 word short story challenge.
Staff at Denton Community College are committed to encouraging reading for pleasure with all students, the school library is currently under development and is being re-stocked in stages throughout the year in order to facilitate this. The benefits of reading for young people are vast, both academically and personally and the hope is that more students will be picking up a book because they want to, not because they are being asked to!
On the 27th February, Year 10 students visited the Blackpool Grand Theatre to see the Royal Shakespeare Company performance of Romeo and Juliet – a text that they have recently studied as part of their English Literature GCSE.
The play was a modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s original text, it provided a stimulus for the students to consider their own perspectives and challenge the choices made by the production team.
A great afternoon was had in stunning surroundings and gave all the students food for thought after watching this interesting adaptation.
The students conducted themselves in an exemplary manner and represented the school wonderfully.
Students have returned from an engaging and rewarding trip to Barcelona. 40 students from Year 9 and 10 headed to the Catalan Capital and the surrounding areas and had a fantastic educational experience that enriched their understanding of Geography. The group were wonderful throughout, and the trip broadened their understanding of many key topics in the course.
During their time in Catalunya, the group visited the serene Montserrat mountains, explored the beaches of the Delta del Ebro, investigated the coastline of Salou, and engaged in sightseeing across central Barcelona.
Thanks to Miss Donnachie, Miss Dixon and Mr Day for all of their efforts to make the trip a success.
Denton Community College students from Year 9 graduated from Manchester University on Thursday 7th February 2019 after completing University style dissertations based on a wide range of topics in a range of disciplines. These included English, Maths, Science and Humanities.
The students have taken part in the Brilliant Club through the Scholars Programme.
The Scholars Programme recruits, trains and places doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in schools to deliver programmes of university-style tutorials, which are supplemented by two university trips. It aims to increase the number of pupils from under-represented backgrounds progressing to highly selective universities. They do this by mobilising the PhD community to share its academic expertise with state schools. DCC has worked with the programme for three years.
This year DCC entered it’s the largest cohort of students and they worked to complete University style dissertations over an extended period of time. The students were highly successful and produced the best results the school has seen from the programme.
Their work was marked with a University style grading system, and over 60% of the Cohort received the highest grades of either a 1st or a 2:1, this demonstrates that these students are working at A level standard, and 38% got the next two grades of 2:2 or 3rd which is a good GCSE level. This is an amazing achievement considering that they have not yet begun GCSE courses.
